J Nehru said that our Government would be just like Westminster system of Govt of England. But England is a Kingdom and India is a Republic. So Indian system of Governance is superior to that of England. Actually Indian nation runs its polity based on Democratic and Republican principles as envisaged in the Constitution of India. Universal Franchise is granted and all people can Vote in general elections. Government of India is conducted by a Cabinet of ministers who are responsible to the Parliament.
India’s Head of Government, President of India is elected by an Electoral college composed of Representatives of people from Parliament at Center and Legislatures from States.
India even though called a Union is not a Union of States for States did not form into Federation in the run up to Union of India.
States are ruled from New Delhi through Governors appointed by New Delhi.
States shall have Legislatures at their Capitals. Legislators are elected by the Voters from respective constituencies.

Quite a silly argument. The political party has been given the mandate to run the country. That is why MPs of various parties frame laws in Lok Sabha. The PM must enact policy that is good for the country, and should incorporate public opinion, which is what the leader of political parties give as inputs. Always good to consult senior leaders, including the opposition parties. Govt also engages with a variety of public opinion, including chambers of commerce, industrialists, NGO’s , Think tanks, and experts before finalising strategy, policy and implementation.

Why Prime Minister should consult Party president on almost all issues with regard to Government Policies. Indian democracy is in retrograde motion if functioning of Government at New Delhi is any indication.
Let us review one precedent that Jawahar Lal Nehru put into Indian politics. In 1946 Nehru joined the interim Government and resigned as Party president on the ground that two roles cannot be combined. J B Kripalani succeeded as Party president then. Kripalani tried to assert that President of the Party and its Working Committee should have a direct role in the government policy making. Nehru and Patel did not buy Kripalani’s argument saying that proceedings and the papers of the government were a secret and could not be divulged to a person outside the government.
Of course, Kripalani resigned over the issue in 1947 and Babu Rajendra Prasad took over as Party president.

Our Constitution declares that elected leader of largest political party should run the government not President of that political party. What is the situation of the present governance under UPA? Democratic norms set by our founding fathers of the Constitution are fully ignored. Openly the PM says that he is confiding every decision of the government to his Party president who did not took oath of office and secrecy.
